Mission:
Primal Enlightenment – To return modern man back to his fitness peak through evolutionary Movement, Nutrition, and Lifestyle.
Philosophy:
“The residents who live here, according to the parable, began noticing increasing numbers of drowning people caught in the river’s swift current. Rather than inventing ever more elaborate technologies to resuscitate them, these heroic villagers looked UPSTREAM to see why the people were falling in; the root of the problem.”
~ Chinese Parable
For the majority of human evolution, man has lived in an environment drastically different than today. His survival was directly determined by the physical ability to hunt, gather resources, build shelter, and escape danger. It was imperative to be able to climb, crawl, jump, lift, and run in a variety of unpredictable environments. However, due to modern technology, man has removed himself from the natural evolutionary order. The human animal has become a sedentary creature, feasting on artificial and processed foods. He has de-evolved — losing the capacity to execute the basic movements that his body is designed to perform, leading to chronic injuries and degraded health.
The goal of Upstream Fitness is to reawaken the human animal and revive these instinctual survival abilities. Through the performance of these natural movements, people become better prepared to meet the possible demands of their own current environment, such as climbing out a window to escape a fire, picking an injured person off the ground, or jumping out of the street to avoid an oncoming vehicle. This is raw functional fitness – enabling one to explore, master, and meet the demands of their surroundings. It provides optimal full-body conditioning, while reducing injuries and instilling confidence. Upstream Fitness believes that in order to improve one’s ability to interact with their environment, and be prepared for the dangers or opportunities they will face, they must train to that standard. To train Upstream.
